3Q Check-ins
3Q Check-ins
Q :: Is it really just 15 minutes a month?
Well, it’s whatever you say it is, of course … but, yes, most 3Q Check-in Managers schedule Check-ins once a month for 10-15 minutes with each direct report.
That’s on purpose … it’s a 3Q Check-in, not a meeting … you might decide to tag your Check-ins onto the front or back end of a standing meeting … which is fine. We’ll show you how to create enough separation — from planning, scheduling, evaluation, whatever the meeting is for — so your direct report sees that the 3Q Check-in is for them.
The time to follow up on anything you agreed to pursue after the Check-in depends on what you agreed to but, unless you uncover a big problem or a big opportunity, whatever you undertake after your Check-in is likely to take minutes, not hours, and make appreciably more than than it costs.
